'Budapest is ranked Eastern Europe’s most livable city, but some areas are still quite broken down and definitely in need of repair. Echoes of the city's past are easily visible, with Soviet design buildings on many a corner and as our tour guide informed us, bullet holes still visible in some buildings such as the military barracks at Buda Castle.'

'After a quick deliberation, my friends and I decided we would leave for Budapest that night. Everyone else in the group had to finish class for the day, so that left me to find and book a hostel and figure out everything we would do there. Most times I have found fantastic hostels to stay in, and this proved right for the rest of my travels so far, but somehow I booked us into the craziest hostel I’ve ever seen. We slept in double beds inside American-Indian themed huts, with sailboats and bow and arrows surrounding us, the walls adorned with wigs and manikins who looked to be sporting the latest hooker fashions – in addition to the host who treated us to Hungary’s national drink – strong, clear and quite possibly lethal 'Palinka' from an unmarked and very suspicious looking bottle. Good thing I never saw ‘Hostel’ or I may have just run from the building screaming.'
